Dear Supporters of Thumbs Up Club

We are writing to update you on a few things coming up with Thumbs Up Club

Summer 2019

What an amazing Summer club we had with over one hundred families benefitting from the over six hundred total sessions we were able to offer to children who would otherwise not be able to access the benefits of a holiday club. We also had the Outstanding Ofsted report thanks to all the hard work from all the staff, committee and parents alike. Thank you to all the parents and carers of children who continue to support us so much.

Running Summer club as a small committee was a lot of work, especially for the small volunteer team co-ordinating bookings, and we do not think that amount of work is sustainable for future clubs. This along with the fact that the current bookings site has had some issues has meant that we have decided to trial some significant changes for bookings for future clubs.  We have been very fortunate to secure help from a lovely parent who is in the process of developing a new booking site for us in preparation of the changes we are making, and which we hope will make big improvements to bookings both for parents and Toni and Lucy who manage the bookings. We will write to you in the New Year with more details of these changes to the booking system.

After reviewing our end of year financial situation, the committee has agreed that we will need to make a minimal increase of fees for both After School Club and Holiday Club effective from January 2020.  The true cost of holiday club per child running at a ratio of 1:2 is over £55 per day.  Whilst a lot of fundraising goes on in the background, this obviously still leaves a big deficit between this and what parents contribute. We have therefore decided to raise the cost of a standard day at Holiday Club to £30 per child. Transport is also in the process of being reviewed, as the cost of offering transport this summer alone was £2555 and parental contributions totalled £1000 of this, leaving a 60% deficit which is unfortunately not sustainable. Likewise for  After School Club, fees have also been reviewed and will increase to £13.50 as of January 2020.

We also wanted to write to ask for some more help with some specific jobs that need completing to enable both Easter and Summer club to happen. Please take a look at this list and see if there is anything that you could take on to help share the load please let us know at enquiries@thumbsupclub.co.uk.  Work behind the scenes of Thumbs Up Club goes on all year, and we desperately need more volunteers to come on board.  Currently our committe is so small that each member is having to do too many jobs. We really do need your support to make Thumbs Up Club the continued success that it is. Here are some of the jobs that we need help with:

  • Booking and supervision of removal company to transport equipment from our lock up to club at the start and end of club;
  • Booking external entertainers for club days and after school club;
  • Co-ordinating annual PIPA safety testing of inflatables;
  • Help with personnel duties including attending recruitment events, interviewing applicants, sourcing references etc.
  • Development of an information leaflet about Thumbs Up Club for prospective parents, staff etc,
  • A point of contact to liaise with Spectrum (our main source of fundraising income);
  • Managing our mailing list;
  • Fundraising Co-ordinator (helping arrange quiz nights etc, encouraging individual fundraising).

All emails should now be sent to enquiries@thumbsupclub.co.uk – bookings@thumbsupclub.co.uk has been deactivated.
